Q&A with Brett

Q: When did you take classes at Թ?

A: I graduated from Missouri State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in finance and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in finance. In 2009, I took additional accounting courses at Թ to satisfy the eligibility rules to sit for the CPA exam. After passing the CPA exam, I served as an adjunct instructor at Թ until 2021.

Q: What are you doing career-wise now and what does your position entail?

A: I am the president of St. Louis Metro Electric Supply, Inc.

Q: What is your favorite thing about your current role?

A: Working with both customers and employees. We have a great team at Metro that I am proud to be part of.

Q: What was your favorite thing about attending Թ?

A: I enjoyed the small classroom settings at Թ. The College also offered affordable classes that were convenient to attend. As an instructor, I enjoyed getting to know the students and watching them grow throughout the semester. Seeing it “click” for someone was very rewarding.

Q: Do you have a memorable class or professor you’d like to shout out?

A: Markus Aherns was great. I learned a lot from him as a student, and I learned even more while I was teaching and he was the department chair.

Q: What advice would you give someone considering your career path?

A: Accounting is a great path if you are interested in business. There are many opportunities within the accounting field, and an accounting background gives you the tools to take on other positions within a company.

Q: What would you say to students considering community college?

A: I think it’s a great option. It’s affordable, and the smaller classroom settings provide an excellent opportunity to work directly with the instructors and get to know your classmates.
