Nursing Program Requirements Checklist
Admission to Թ does not guarantee admission to the nursing program. Below is a pre-entry checklist.
General Pre-entry Requirements for All Nursing Program Tracks
- Apply to Թ as a degree-seeking student. Visit Apply to Թ.
- Degree-seeking status and official college transcripts.
- Official college transcripts must be sent directly from each college attended to the Թ Registrar's Office. Visit transferring credit to Թ for more information.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Developmental courses numbered below 100 completed at any institution will not be
counted toward the minimum cumulative GPA. The minimum 2.5 GPA must be maintained
while on the Nursing Applicant List. A minimum GPA of 2.0 must be maintained once
enrolled in the Nursing Program.
- Թ students with at least 15 college-level credits with a 2.5 GPA will meet this requirement, regardless of the GPA at other colleges. College transfer students with fewer than 15 Թ credits must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA in college-level credits earned at all colleges attended.
- Math proficiency at or above the MTH 140 (Level 2) level. MTH 165 and MTH 166 will not meet the requirement
for the nursing program. Please refer to the math proficiency chart for ways to meet
this requirement. Prerequisites:
- Reading Proficiency (MTH 140S)
- Satisfactory score on placement test and Reading Proficiency (MTH 140)
- Fundamentals of Chemistry: CHM 101* completed with a grade of “C” or higher OR two
semesters of high school chemistry with a lab, both semesters completed with a grade
of “C” or higher.
Prerequisites:- Completion of MTH 140S with a grade of “C” or higher or placement into MTH 140 or higher.
- Introductory Biology: BIO 111* completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
Prerequisites:- Reading Proficiency or concurrent enrollment in RDG 079.
- College Composition I: ENG 101 completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
Prerequisites:- Satisfactory placement score on placement test.
- Completion of ENG 030 or ENG 070 with a grade of “C” or higher.
- Recommendation of department and Reading Proficiency.
- Concurrent enrollment in RDG 079.
- Anatomy and Physiology I: BIO 207* completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
Prerequisites:- BIO 111 or BIO 140 or CHM 101 with a grade of “C” or higher or course equivalency and Reading Proficiency.
- General Psychology: PSY 200 completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
Prerequisites:- Reading Proficiency or concurrent enrollment in RDG 079.
- Communication Between Cultures: COM 200 or Introduction to Sociology: SOC 101 completed
with a grade of “C” or higher. Prerequisites:
- Reading Proficiency or concurrent enrollment in RDG 079 (SOC 101).
- Reading Proficiency (COM 200).
- Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam completed with a minimum composite score
of 58.7 within two calendar years of application.
Additional information:- Minimum of four weeks, or 30 days, between attempts in taking the TEAS exam and a maximum of three attempts in a 12-month period.
- TEAS exam can be completed in an Թ testing center.

- Standardized Testing Interview: After completing the TEAS exam, the student is required to meet with a Nursing Retention Coach to discuss the results.
*Chemistry and one of the following are required within five years: BIO 207, 208, or 203.
RN Bridge Additional Pre-entry and General Career Requirements
In addition to the nursing pre-entry checklist above, students in the RN Bridge course must also meet the following requirements.
- Anatomy and Physiology II: BIO 208* completed with a grade of “C” or higher. Completed prior to NUR 153 or NUR 170. Prerequisites:
- BIO 207 completed with a grade of “C” or higher and Reading Proficiency.
- General Microbiology I: BIO 203* completed with a grade of “C” or higher. Completed prior to NUR 170 or NUR 251. Prerequisites:
- BIO 111 or BIO 140 completed with a grade of “C” or higher, or course equivalency.
- Reading Proficiency.
- Human Growth and Development: PSY 205 completed with a grade of “C” or higher. Completed prior to NUR 153 or NUR 170. Prerequisites:
- PSY 200 completed with a grade of “C” or higher and Reading Proficiency.
*Chemistry and one of the following are required within five years: BIO 207, 208, or 203.
RN Bridge Additional Required Documentation
- LPN / Paramedic License - Current undisciplined copy of Missouri License (LPN or EMT-P). Full documented information can be found online at for LPNs and the for EMT-Ps. Photos of physical licenses will not be accepted.
- Work Experience - One year of LPN or EMT-P work experience within five years of application. For students who have graduated within the past 12 months from an LPN or paramedic program, the work experience requirement will be waived. Work experience must be attested to in a letter of reference. Resumes or CVs will not be accepted as proof of employment.
- Letter of Reference from recent or current employer.
When the above criteria have been met, students must submit a signed nursing program application. The application must be signed by both the student and Student Success Advisor.
Completed applications must be emailed to stlcc-nursing@stlcc.edu. Mailed or faxed applications will not be accepted or processed. All communication from the Nursing Division will be sent to Թ student email addresses only. No communication will be mailed or faxed to students.
