Before she ever walked across the stage as a Թ graduate, Abigail Bohlmann helped shape the culture of creativity, leadership and community at Թ’s Meramec campus.
Whether she is mentoring first-year students in a design studio, organizing campus events, leading student government meetings or creating detailed interior renderings late into the evening, Bohlmann has become known as someone who leaves every space better than she found it.
This spring, Bohlmann will graduate with an Associate of Applied Science in Interior Design, one of the program’s most accomplished students, earning praise not only for her artistic and technical talent, but also for the compassion and encouragement she brings to campus life.
“Interior design is a lot more work than anyone thinks when they think of the degree,” Bohlmann said. “You learn to adjust yourself to any specific environment, study how people interact within a space, communicate your designs effectively and so much more.”
Leading Across Campus
Bohlmann’s leadership resume spans nearly every corner of campus. She serves as president of the Student Government Association (SAG), co-president of the Interior Designers of Meramec club and vice president of the Campus Activities Board (CAB).
“I was interested in becoming part of CAB and SGA to help make Meramec’s events livelier and even more fun,” she said. “I wanted to bring some of that excitement that I saw on other campuses to students here who deserve it.”

In her role with the Campus Activities Board, Bohlmann helped create engaging campus events that brought students together.
“Events are always a blast,” she said. “We try to make them as interactive and intriguing as possible. Students meet new friends, create art and enjoy free food, and it really builds that sense of community.”
But while her list of leadership roles is extensive, those who know Bohlmann say what truly sets her apart is the way she approaches each responsibility. Her positivity, empathy and genuine desire to help others succeed define her presence on campus.
“She is known within our program for her positive attitude and for consistently fostering an encouraging and supportive environment among her fellow students,” said Erin LeClerc, professor of interior design at Թ-Meramec.
Designing With Creativity and Purpose
That spirit is especially visible inside the interior design studios, where Bohlmann has distinguished herself creatively and academically. Her design projects are recognized for their originality and sophisticated presentation style, particularly her advanced 3D rendering work.
Her growth within the program reflects not only her skill development, but also a transformation in how she approached college itself.
“When I first started, I wasn’t the type to go above and beyond, and I often left campus immediately after class,” Bohlmann said. “But over time, I grew closer with my professors and classmates and became inspired by their hard work and commitment. I never would have expected to become so close with everyone in the program.”
Faculty members say her patience and willingness to help others have made a lasting impact, particularly in her work as an embedded tutor supporting first-year students.
“She leads with compassion, and her integrity and supportive nature make her a highly respected member of our program,” LeClerc said.
Creating a Welcoming Studio Community
That commitment to community earned Bohlmann the 2026 Interior Design Studio Impact Award, recognizing her role in cultivating a welcoming and collaborative studio environment.
Along with the Impact Award, she also received the 2026 Greater St. Louis Artists Merit Scholarship for her creative achievements.
“Abby is an important part of our program and campus community,” instructors wrote in their nomination materials. “She always strives to ensure every student feels welcome and included by fostering an encouraging, supportive environment for those around her.”
Beyond technical skills, Bohlmann credits the program with preparing her for professional success.
“Our interior design program is an excellent program not only for design skills, but also for job skills,” she said. “We do portfolio reviews with professionals, learn how to present ourselves, create resumes and even practice elevator speeches.”
Balancing academics, leadership roles and life outside of school required intentional effort.
“I found my balance by practicing active gratitude,” Bohlmann said. “What you believe about yourself is what you will become. If you don’t believe you can do it, then you never will.”
Bohlmann first chose Թ to explore her options while staying financially responsible. Now, she encourages other students to consider that same path.
“Coming to Թ will provide you with a lifetime of knowledge, connections and experiences — all without putting yourself in debt or uprooting your life,” she said. “It completely changed my outlook on life.”

Preparing for Her Next Chapter
As she prepares for her next chapter, Bohlmann already has ambitious plans. She will attend the University of Missouri to pursue a Bachelor of Architectural Studies with an emphasis in interior design, followed by a Master of Architecture.
“With my master’s, I hope to become a licensed architect, gain experience in the field and eventually become a professor,” she said.
For the Թ-Meramec community, however, Bohlmann’s legacy is already clear. Through leadership, creativity and a deep commitment to lifting others up, she has helped create a campus culture where students feel welcomed, encouraged and inspired to succeed.
“No matter your pace, skill or experience, Թ is a place for everyone to learn and grow,” she said. “Not only academically, but also as a person.”
And for many of the classmates she guided along the way, that impact may be the most lasting design she leaves behind.
